The fact that the » How I Met Your Mother » sequel » How I Met Your Father » was released relatively late in Germany, namely almost six months after it was launched in the USA, has at least one advantage: you no longer have to worry whether the sitcom will go ahead or not — numbers in the US were strong enough to greenlight a second season of How I Met Your Father back last March. And that’s not all: As the series executives Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger have revealed in the meantime, Disney has not ordered ten but 20 new episodes for the second season.
So the second season will be twice (!) as long as the first — and that’s hardly used to, especially in streaming times. Where it used to be absolutely normal in linear television to produce more than 20 episodes per season, the trend at Netflix & Co. is moving towards twelve episodes or fewer. So it’s a real vote of confidence that the extension was directly linked to such an increase in episode output.
