Netflix
+++ Opinion +++
Almost two years have passed since » 365 Days » became one of the biggest hits in Netflix history. The trade press hardly left a good hair on the Polish love thriller with porn elements (the film has a remarkable 0 percent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes ), but the viewing figures were right — and so it hardly surprised anyone that the streaming giant shortly afterwards commissioned the first sequel. After all, the whole thing is not just based on a novel, but on a whole series of books. The fact that in the end she actually has hardly anything to tell quickly becomes a minor matter.
But the success proves the questionable-toxic love game right: The sequel “ 365 Days 2: This Day ”, which has been available for a few days, topped the Netflix charts right away, as expected, and in the same breath also helped the predecessor to the top 10 comeback . So there really does seem to be an audience for this depiction of dubious role models, staged like a glossy music video, blunderingly told and played like C-porn. Yes, in fact these «365 Days» films have more in common with a sex film than with a feature film — except that in the end what you expect from porn is not what you see.
The FILMSTARTS review of «365 Days 2: This Day»
So while many Netflix users seem to be happy about the return of Massimo ( Michele Morrone ) and Laura ( Anna Maria Sieklucka ), after Part 2 at the latest I understand all the better why Netflix is experiencing a decline in subscribers for the first time in history * inside has to post. If you are actually looking for tingling eroticism and maybe also a gripping story with well-developed characters, you will not find either of these here. In the past few years, several films have shown that both are quite compatible with each other — in addition to Paul Verhoeven’s » Benedetta «, the Danish Oscar contender from 2019, » Queen «, succeeded in doing so.

«Queen»: Great character cinema despite the porn plot
The two «365 Days» films are not only implemented completely lovelessly (as this wonderfully amusing mistake in part 2 also underlines) and completely free of contentual as well as sexual tension, but on top of that they are also a downright disgusting and extremely worrying piece of erotic thriller -Cinema in which the eroticism is just as missing as the thrill. «Queen» combines both brilliantly — even though the plot is reminiscent of a widespread porn genre.
