» Monstrous » is set in the 1950s. Laura (Christina Ricci) is on the run from her abusive husband with her seven-year-old son Cody ( Santino Barnard ). Far away from the nearest big city, the two find a new home in the country house of a helpful older couple ( Don Baldaramos , Colleen Camp ). Laura hopes to start a new life here.
In the nearby village she finds a job as a typist while Cody attends the local school. Everything could be perfect if the boy wasn’t shaken every night by scary visions of a monster from the pond behind the cottage. Laura initially believes that this has to do with the threatening calls from her husband, who somehow found out her new number. But then she has to realize that the little one’s nightmares are obviously a terrible reality…

«Monstrous» had its world premiere in March 2022 as part of the Glasgow Film Festival in Scotland. On May 13, 2022, the film then started in selected cinemas in North America and in parallel as video-on-demand. When and how we can see the film in this country has not yet been announced.
«Monstrous» – a stylish horror piece
The trailer already suggests it: the film is very stylish. It features beautiful vintage cars, great costumes, and a contemporary rock ‘n’ roll and doo-wop twist. Directed by Chris Sivertson , director of I Know Who Killed Me and All Cheerleaders Die. The screenplay for the horror story came from Carol Chrest («Prophet’s Game — In the Web of Death»).
The traumatized protagonist in Monstrous was Christina Ricci , who last starred in the hit psychological thriller series Yellowjackets. The Californian celebrated her breakthrough at a very young age in «The Addams Family» and the sequel «The Addams Family in Crazy Tradition». Ricci’s other notable works include Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, Sleepy Hollow, The Blizzard, and Monster.
The larger supporting parts starred Santino Barnard («Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels»), Don Baldaramos from «Zombies Vs. Strippers» and Colleen Camp («Die Hard», «Wayne’s World») in front of the camera. Also starring is Lew Temple , who played the character Axel in The Walking Dead season three.
