The cinema fair CinemaCon has given us a lot of new information about eagerly awaited Hollywood blockbusters this week. Finally, all kinds of first trailers for and scenes from upcoming potential film highlights such as » Avatar 2 » or » John Wick 4 » were presented on site, which have not yet been published online, but the content of which has been and is being discussed extensively on the Internet. In the case of » Top Gun 2: Maverick «, the Paramount studio was not satisfied with just excerpts, but showed the complete film right away.
It didn’t take long for the first reactions from those present to find their way to Twitter, where they were filled with hymns of praise. So far, at least, there is hardly a negative word to be found about the late sequel to the 1980s aviator cult film. Of course, the first Twitter votes should always be treated with caution, because often those who are the first to see a film are particularly euphoric about the verdict. However, the unanimous enthusiasm suggests that there is actually something to it, especially since the tweets do not come from a selected fan audience, but from journalists.
Breathtaking blockbuster action with a lot of heart
Jeff Sneider from the well-known Hollywood newsletter The Ankler describes «Top Gun 2» as the perfect blockbuster, which has also become surprisingly emotional:
«Not only does it have mind-blowing aerial combat sequences , I actually cried, he’s so emotional. And calls me crazy, but I humbly predict it’ll be nominated for best picture next year. Not only is he SO good, he is VERY good.”
Collider boss Steven Weintraub and editors of the websites Fandango , CinemaBlend and The Globe And Mail , among others , seamlessly agree and particularly praise the cast and the flight scenes staged by «Tron: Legacy» and «Oblivion» director Joseph Kosinski in the highest tones. After all, they caused amazement in the trailers and, according to the Twitter voices, should definitely be viewed on the largest possible screen:

«One word: Wow!» ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is absolutely fantastic in every way. The action and flying is incredibly intense and constantly evolving. You can hardly stand the tension. I wasn’t prepared for how emotional it would get either. The audience cheered dozens of times.”

Better than part 1
According to IndieWire reporter Chris Landahl , the big heart of «Top Gun 2», which has already been mentioned several times in the above tweets, is apparently primarily derived from the many references to the first part , even if the sequel still works independently:

The best movie of the year…
The Wrap author Drew Taylor and Fandango correspondent Nikki Novak even go a step further and call «Top Gun: Maverick» not only the best movie of the year, but maybe even the last ten years :
… or too generic?
The only point of criticism that shines through from time to time is the obviously very predictable course of the plot and its quite generic structure , which is supposed to be almost identical to the first part. But while Forbes writer Scott Mendelson is actually quite disappointed by this, most people don’t seem to mind because of the sheer power and the many other strengths of the film, as Bean Pearson from Slash Film also points out :
