Today on TV This science fiction remake of a cult classic is actually much better than its bad reputation — cinema news

Sony Pictures Releasing France

Remakes naturally have a hard time. While they are repeatedly confronted with the question of whether a remake is necessary at all, they are usually blamed for never being able to do justice to the original anyway — and if they then try something new, nobody likes it either. Neither really popular nor all that successful, Len Wiseman’s » Total Recall » fulfills the classic «remakes the world doesn’t need» image. Wrongly.

Sure, the new edition of the Schwarzenegger classic has (especially visually) little to do with the brutal, wacky hit by cult director Paul Verhoeven. But she doesn’t have to. » Total Recall » from 1991 is beyond reproach and perfect the way it is. But if you’re already reissuing it, then the new edition should at least offer something new — and that’s exactly what «Underworld» creator Len Wiseman succeeded in doing .

So when “Total Recall” is broadcast on Sat.1 on April 23rd at 10:50 p.m. , we definitely recommend checking it out. Provided, of course, that you approach the film with the right expectations – away from the legendary Schwarzenegger thriller and towards the glossy spectacle of the 21st century.

That’s what «Total Recall» is about

Late 21st century: Large parts of the earth are destroyed after global catastrophes, so that only two nations exist — the «United Federation of Britain» and the so-called «Colony». While the simple working people are crammed together in the colony, the ruling class around Chancellor Cohaagen ( Bryan Cranston ) lives in the Federation , against which a group of rebels rebels around resistance fighter Matthias ( Bill Nighy ). Doug Quaid ( Colin Farrell ), on the other hand, is just an ordinary factory worker — or so he thinks.

He leads a simple but happy life, is married to the beautiful Lori ( Kate Beckinsale ) — and yet it eventually drives him into the arms of the Rekall company. Because it promises to be able to implant any kind of dream in an authentic experience and to make the lives of its customers more exciting. Quaid decides to step into the shoes of a super agent, but something goes terribly wrong during the procedure — and before he knows it, he finds himself in a bitter struggle of life and death…
