The production forge The Asylum is known for a very simple exploitation principle of current blockbusters: If a film is successful, then it is simply turned through the trash meat grinder again. The result is so-called mockbusters such as «Atlantic Rim: Resurrection», «Lord Of The Elves», «Ape Vs. Monster» or «Street Racer».
“ Robot Apocalypse ”, which is celebrating its free TV premiere today, May 10 at 10 p.m. on Tele 5, is an Asylum production and is clearly based on sci-fi spectacles such as “Terminator”, “I, Robot» or «Automata». However, they seem to have put a little more budget into their hands here, because the sci-fi actioner doesn’t look quite as ridiculous as «Ape Vs. Monster» and Co. in the end.
By the way : While the film was released on DVD in America last year, a German home cinema release on Blu-ray and DVD is still a long way off. So if you want to see Robot Apocalypse, tune in to Tele 5 tonight — or just check out the Tele 5 media library, where the sci-fi thriller is available from today through June 9th.
This is what Robot Apocalypse is about
Humanity is threatened by an advanced supercomputer. Artificial intelligence is doing everything it can to protect the earth and life on it. Curiously, the AI has come to the conclusion that the only way to achieve its goal is to completely eradicate human existence. The «Archos» system also has the cognitive abilities to take control of military weapon systems — and seems to herald the end of humanity.
The hacker Tara Lopez (Katalina Viteri) must therefore find a way to stop the killing machines as quickly as possible, because they are already on their way to rid planet Earth of humans. In her fight against the digital threat, the software specialist is supported by courageous mercenaries, including Derek (Tito Ortiz) and Jorge (Noah Jay Wood).
