The new trailer for Netflix’s «Resident Evil» series promises a gigantic zombie festival — series news

While the Resident Evil brand has produced some of the best horror video games of all time, Paul WS Anderson’s theatrical adaptations, starring Milla Jovovich, have largely failed — whether with fans or the trade press (although we have given quite positive ratings at FILMSTARTS). Netflix is now trying to reboot the brand. With a series simply called “ Resident Evil ”, the streaming service is implementing its very own interpretation of the zombie saga.

However, the new trailer gives the impression that the Netflix version will not differ too much tonally from the Anderson films. Above you can find the German version of the trailer, further down in the article there is also the original English version.

+++ Opinion +++

Anyone who, like me, hoped that Netflix’s «Resident Evil» would take a radical new direction and present us with a slightly more serious version of the zombie apocalypse should probably swallow after this trailer. The modest monster CGI, the flat plot, the ridiculously presented dialogues: all this seems as if the next «Resident Evil» trash awaits us.

If the main character then starts the chainsaw with a «Fuck it!» on his lips, the B-movie tone is set. This could also work very well in the style of » Ash Vs. Evil Dead «, but whether «Resident Evil» will really convince in this way remains to be seen.

That’s what «Resident Evil» is about

«Resident Evil» takes place in two time planes: In the first, siblings Jade ( Tamara Smart ) and Billie ( Siena Agudong ) move to Raccoon City, where their father Albert Wesker ( Lance Reddick ) works for the Umbrella Corporation, which is in the making to bring a new drug to market.

The second time level takes place 14 years later. An outbreak of the T-Virus, which mutates humans and animals into zombies and other monsters, has nearly wiped out the world’s entire population. Only around 15 million survivors, including the now adult Jade ( Ella Balinska ), are now fighting for survival every day.

The first season of «Resident Evil», consisting of eight episodes, will be released on Netflix on July 14, 2022.
