With » The Last Of Us «, HBO is currently producing the series adaptation of an acclaimed video game hit, which takes place in a world that has been overrun by noise-sensitive mushroom zombies — a kind of mixture of «The Walking Dead» and «A Quiet Place», but with funghi flavor. Since the announcement, we have only received bits and pieces of information and insights into the approximately $ 100 million series project. But now there are two pieces of news worth reporting at once: The first picture showing Joel and Ellie from the front has been published. In addition, the original actors* of the two main characters have been signed up for roles in the series.

At first glance, there are no surprises here. However, it is worth taking a close look. Because what is not initially noticeable in the rather dark scene: A so-called clicker is hiding in the background, i.e. a person infected with the Cordyceps fungus, whose head has burst open as a result of the infection. It’s a common enemy type in video games that Joel and Ellie are sure to encounter quite a bit in the series as well. Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson , who both voiced and motion-captured Joel and Ellie in the video game, will also star in the HBO adaptation, Deadline reports. Of course, the two will take on different roles than in the original, since Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey already play the main characters of the series. Who Baker and Johnson will embody is not yet known. However, Twitter user ViewerAnon , usually well-informed when it comes to Hollywood productions, claims Ashley Johnson will play Ellie’s mother.
This is mentioned in the games but never shown. It’s quite possible that the series will now change that and present us with flashbacks in which we get a glimpse of Ellie’s life before the apocalypse . Casting Ashley Johnson as Ellie’s mother would certainly be a plausible choice. Official information about the roles of the two cast newcomers is still pending.
» The Last Of Us » is expected to be released in the USA in 2023 on HBO Max and will most likely be launched in Germany on Sky or WOW (formerly Sky Ticket ).
