The finale of «Stranger Things 4» will be even more powerful than you think &amp should even overshadow Season 3 — Series News

Netflix made a very unusual split into Season 4 of Stranger Things . Instead of releasing the entire season or pausing in the middle, as is often the case with other series, the first seven of a total of nine episodes were released on May 27th. Episodes 8 and 9 won’t be available on Netflix until July 1, 2022. The reason for this decision could be that the streaming service wants to fuel the anticipation of a truly gigantic season finale. The final episode alone will have an impressive running time of 2 hours and 30 minutes. That counts as overlength even in a cinema film, and in a series episode it goes far beyond the conventional framework.

But it’s not just the sheer length that will make Episode 9 a one-of-a-kind Stranger Things event. In an interview with Empire magazine , series creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer once again emphasized how difficult it was to direct the season finale.

This is how bombastic the season 4 finale will be

As Matt Duffer explains, «The final episode has more visual effects shots than all of Season 3.» That’s quite an announcement when you consider that Season 3 already offered a spectacular finale with a huge monster that devastated an entire shopping mall. But that’s not all…

…as Ross Duffer adds to Empire : «There’s an hour-long chunk in the final episode that just doesn’t stop. It’s the most complicated thing we’ve ever tried. All tense and terrifying, with a running time that would be long even for a movie. And then, well, all hell breaks loose…»

That all sounds spectacular, but this statement is not entirely surprising. We reported a few weeks before the start of the season that Season 4, with a budget of around 30 million dollars per episode, will probably be the most expensive series season that has been released to date. After all, only about 15 million per episode were due for the mega hit «Game Of Thrones» even in the grand finale, and the Marvel and «Star Wars» series also (still) get by with a lower budget. As far as we know, only Amazon’s upcoming «Lord of the Rings» series will have even higher production costs per episode (58 million!).

It can be assumed that the Duffer brothers saved a large part of their budget for the XXL finale. The conclusion of «Stranger Things 4» should therefore surpass everything we have known so far from the Netflix series, at least in terms of effect bombast. Let’s hope that part 2 of season 4 is also convincing apart from that and then all the questions that are burning on our nails after part 1 will be clarified:
