In 2020, » The Kangaroo Chronicles » started right before the first corona-related closure of the cinemas — which prevented it from the mega success that was about to happen. Because the more than 500,000 cinema tickets sold in the first few days showed that the film would easily have found an audience of millions under normal conditions. After a re-release in the reopened cinemas, the comedy still attracted 814,000 people to the halls and thus became one of the most successful cinema films of 2020 in Germany.
In view of the special circumstances, this was an impressive result, which ultimately also laid the foundation for a second part. And without any cinema restrictions, it should really be a huge hit. This should not only be ensured by the many fans of part 1, but also by the cult podcast/book/comic templates around the eponymous communist kangaroo by author Marc-Uwe Kling , especially since Kling not only lends his voice to the animal protagonist again, but this time also took a seat in the director’s chair.

New story for «The Kangaroo Chronicles 2»
As the title » The Kangaroo Conspiracy » already suggests, the sequel is not a direct adaptation of one of the four «Kangaroo» books «Chronicles», «Manifesto», «Revelation» and «Apocrypha». Instead, a new story inspired by current world events was developed:
Little artist Marc-Uwe ( Dimitrij Schaad ) and his marsupial roommate embark on a turbulent road trip to dissuade the mother of Marc-Uwe’s crush Maria ( Rosalie Thomass ) from the path of climate crisis deniers. The chaotic duo is soon targeted by the dangerous conspiracy guru Adam Krieger ( Benno Fürmann ).
Despite the fresh plot, all sorts of elements and scenes from Kling’s kangaroo stories will of course find their way into the film again, as is already clear from the trailer above. We’ll find out in a few months whether all of this will end up as a comedy highlight and whether the sequel will really be the expected hit:
«The Kangaroo Conspiracy» will start in German cinemas on August 25, 2022.
With Marvel experience and a Tarantino actor: That’s how the «The Kangaroo Chronicles» star was born
