The first two seasons of The Boys on Amazon Prime Video were a comfortable counterbalance to the ubiquitous Marvel and DC superheroes and supervillains: cheeky, brutal, funny, and with a refreshing premise where the super-powered characters are sometimes not the good guys, but (mostly) dirty, arrogant and psychopathic unsympathetics.
That hasn’t changed in the third season «The Boys», but at the same time the somewhat different superhero series is slowed down in the new episodes by too many storylines and characters and, like an aging supe, carries too much weight with it hereabouts.

In Season 3, it takes some time for the plot to get going. In the later episodes (we saw 6 out of 8 episodes in advance), showrunner Eric Kripke and his team can then pick up on the highlights of the first two seasons.
