On the planet Daiyu, Obi-Wan ( Ewan McGregor ) sees a war veteran begging for money in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 2. The bearded, beat-up homeless man who gets a few credits thrown in his helmet is played by » Boba Fett » Temuera Morrison . That makes sense, of course, since both Boba and the war veteran are clones of Jango Fett, played by Morrison in Star Wars: Episode II.

So the veteran had to be played by Morrison. But it’s more than just a small cameo, more than a nice gimmick for the fans. Because director Deborah Chow and her team understand perfectly how to charge the scene with additional meaning.
A scene of pain
Right after we see the filthy, homeless ex-clone trooper, stormtroopers walk by in their clean armor. With this juxtaposition , the creators cleverly clarify once again how the clone troopers were used by the Emperor. They had to face and murder their previous allies, the Jedi. And after that, they were just thrown out and replaced with the new Stormtroopers.
Not only does the clone feel pain in this scene, but also Obi-Wan. He looks into the eyes of one of those men who betrayed him. In fact, many of the clone troopers were real friends of the Jedi. Nevertheless, he throws him a few credits in the helmet. Sympathy? Just not to attract attention?
Ewan McGregor’s face at least speaks volumes in this scene, as it shows his character’s pain , his struggle to face a traitor, who has already suffered a lot for his act, for which he was also not able to do much because of his programming.

The scene is very short. None of this is spelled out at any point. It doesn’t talk about the feelings. Because it is much stronger to just show it briefly with pictures. For me, it’s one of the best moments in the decent opener to Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Our video editor Sebastian also talks about Temuera Morrison’s appearance in his video for the first two episodes, which is also about the mysterious Reva ( Moses Ingram ).
