“ Slash/Back ” takes place in Pangnirtung, a small settlement in northern Canada that can only be reached by plane. This is where Maika ( Tasiana Shirley ) lives, annoyed by the remoteness and uneventfulness of her homeland . The hunter’s daughter’s best friends are the privileged Leena ( Chelsea Prusky ), who gets to go to Winnipeg once a year, horror movie nerd Jesse ( Alexis Wolfe ), and Uki ( Nalajoss Ellsworth ), the unwaveringly positive, good soul of the group.
While hanging out together in an abandoned hunting lodge, the teenage girls must save Maika’s little sister from an apparently severely deformed but enormously aggressive polar bear. What the girls don’t know is that the bear was only serving as a host for an alien parasite that survived despite their amazing shooting skills. It doesn’t take long before he attacks them in the body of the racist cop they’ve always hated.
That’s when Jesse begins to understand what’s going on here. While she describes the plot of the John Carpenter classic » The Thing From Another World » to her companions, the girls prepare for the next attack of the tentacle creature. Because there’s no one out here who can come to their aid…
Bitter evil vampire horror «Jakob’s Wife»: Help, my wife bit the gardener!
«Slash/Back» had its world premiere on March 13, 2022 at the renowned South-By-South-West Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. Unfortunately, there is currently no information available regarding a release of any kind in Germany.
Kudos for «Slash/Back»
«Slash/Back» was filmed on Baffin Island. The island is roughly the size of Spain and is located in the Arctic Ocean between mainland Canada and Greenland in the Arctic Circle. Director debut Nyla Innuksuk cast the young stars of her film exclusively from the ranks of the local Inuit, who make up the majority of the population of just over 13,000 people.
If you believe the almost consistently positive reviews from SXSW, the four amateur actresses seem to have done their job really well. Their group dynamics are said to be reminiscent of those of the protagonists of the Netflix megahit «Stranger Things». Especially Tasiana Shirley in the leading role is always positively highlighted. Innuksuk’s staging, as well as the CGI and practical effects, also received unanimous praise. So genre fans can look forward to it.
