» Animals — Like wild animals » tells the story of a young man: Brahim ( Soufiane Chilah ) is in his late 20s, handsome, intelligent, polite and extremely respectful of his parents ( Anne-Marie Loop , Amid Chakir ). All relatives and acquaintances are present at his mother’s birthday. Brahim gets the feeling that they all already know about his secret. Still, he can’t bring himself to finally tell them that he’s gay.

When the friend he’s longingly waiting for simply doesn’t show up for the party, Brahim can’t take the situation at the family home, which seems so tense for him, anymore and runs out into the night.
A little later he is in the car of four strangers with whom he wants to drive to the next town. The drunk guys only tease him at first, but then they become more and more aggressive. Finally they drag him out of the vehicle, rip his clothes off and start beating him mercilessly…

«Animals» is based on a true story
The film by Belgian director, producer and screenwriter Nabil Ben Yadir («Gangstas 4 Life», «Blind Spot») is based on a real case that shook our neighboring country in 2012. The drama had its world premiere at the Gent Film Festival and was then successfully shown at various other renowned festivals such as that of the city of Luxembourg or the Tallinn Black Nights in Estonia.
Above all, the positive reviews praise Yadir’s equally imaginative and fearlessly direct staging and leading actor Soufiane Chilah. The son of Moroccan immigrants, who was born in Brussels, is likely to be popular with local series fans mainly because of his supporting roles in the ZDF co-production «The Team», the thriller series «Over Water — Im Netz der Lügen» and the arte thriller «Red Light ‘ to be known alongside Carice Van Houten.
