» The Curse Of Audrey Earnshaw » takes place in 1973 in a North American village far removed from the rest of civilization. The exclusively Irish-born residents lead a technologically backward life, strictly based on the Christian faith of their old homeland, full of hardships and deprivations.
When a mysterious plague invades the entire village, including its livestock and vital crops, only one resident is spared: Agatha Earnshaw ( Catherine Walker ), who lives in her shabby little homestead just outside the village. This earns her the distrust, then the hatred of her superstitious neighbors, who blame the poor woman for the situation.
But Agatha withdrew from the rest of the community years ago for a reason. Back then, during a fateful solar eclipse, she gave birth to an illegitimate child that no one knows about. And she fears that the now-teen girl ( Jessica Reynolds ) may actually be possessed by dark forces. At least that would explain the strangely disturbing events in the trailer, in which a woman pulls a mysterious object out of her mouth…

An «Outlander» star learns to be spooked
Empyrean director Thomas Robert Lee’s second film received critical acclaim from the North American press for its chillingly sober atmosphere, the work of cinematographer Nick Thomas (TV series Nancy Drew), and the acting. Lee’s story, however, might be a little too close to Robert Eggers’ breakthrough work The Witch , starring Anya Taylor-Joy, it said.
Catherine Walker from «Versailles» and «House Of Gucci» and Jessica Reynolds, who was completely unknown at the time of shooting, were cast in the lead roles. By now, at least «Outlander» fans should be familiar with Reynolds as Malva Christie from the current sixth season of the popular series.
Other parts included: Jared Abrahamson («American Animals»), Hannah Emily Anderson from the «The Purge» series and «Saw 8: Jigsaw», Don McKellar («eXistenZ», «Exotica»), Sean McGinley (» Shrooms) and Geraldine O’Rawe from Circle Of Friends.
