Woo’s pathetic, brutal and incredibly stylishly staged action ballet has shaped numerous filmmakers and repeatedly appears at the top of leaderboards. There have always been plans for a Hollywood remake, but they have changed again and again over the past few decades. At the height of the » Avatar » hype, for example, a 3D action film was to be created. It has been known for a few years that John Woo is now supposed to do the remake himself – and that is exactly what will happen now.
Streaming service Peacock announces «The Killer».
The American streaming service Peacock from Hollywood studio Universal has now announced a series of projects that will premiere on the platform in 2023. Among them is The Killer remake. Universal doesn’t reveal much and only announces in the press release that John Woo is directing. He is giving his directorial comeback.
However, this designation is not entirely accurate. Because Woo is currently making his Hollywood comeback: with Joel Kinnaman in the leading role, the actioner » Silent Night » is being created, which is supposed to do completely without dialogue. The director will probably tackle “The Killer” after that.
By the way, a few years ago it was said that Oscar winner and Marvel star Lupita Nyong’o should take on the leading role. But it will probably not come to that, as Woo has meanwhile explained again that the actress has left. It remains to be seen when we will then see “The Killer” on Peacocok in 2023 or possibly on Sky in Germany, where the streaming service is currently already integrated.
