A masterpiece with five out of five stars at FILMSTARTS . Numerous mentions in all-time best lists. And according to the American Film Institute , it’s even the best musical in history: » Singin’ in the Rain » is one of the brightest shining classics in cinema history! But the home theater releases of the infectiously good-humoured musical about friendship, love and film magic have so far left a lot to be desired. Because the iconic backdrops and colorful costumes of screen legend Gene Kelly & Co. have always looked a bit too pale.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the musical milestone once known in this country as «You shall be my lucky star», there is finally a remedy: «Singin’ in the Rain» was recently released in an ultimate anniversary edition, in which the film with restored picture and sound on Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray . This highlight of Hollywood cinema finally shines at home as much as it should.

The ultimate anniversary edition was only released in a limited number and includes a steel book with «Singin’ in the Rain» on DVD and Blu-ray, a 48-page companion book and several collector’s items from stickers and mini displays to lobby cards and a double-sided poster.

Silent film superstar Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) and his screen partner Lina Lamont ( Jean Hagen ) are audience favorites par excellence. But the film industry does not stand still — and the increasing prominence of sound films makes professional life difficult for the duo. Lina fears that her high-pitched voice is doomed to die — but Don and his best friend Cosmo Brown ( Donald O’Connor ) have an idea: they want to get the lovely-voiced Kathy Selden ( Debbie Reynolds ) to talk to Lina to be synchronized from now on. Easy to say, difficult to implement — especially since there are still a few ego hurdles in the way of this plan…
