A whole twenty years had to pass before Sylvester Stallone slipped back into the role of the iconic lone fighter after “ Rambo III ” and intervened as a fighting machine in “ John Rambo ” in the Burmese civil war. However, the plans for the fourth «Rambo» originally looked very different.
In the mid-2000s, Sylvester Stallone was planning to adapt Chuck Logan’s novel Homefront into Rambo 4. As we know today, however, nothing came of it and the action warhorse left it with the script, which ultimately became an action hit with Jason Statham , which will be broadcast on RTL tonight from 11:30 p.m. and otherwise also on Amazon Prime Video can be streamed. But how did it actually come about?

John Rambo as DEA agent and dad?
Stallone has already made concrete plans to convert «Homefront» into a «Rambo» chapter. In it, we would have seen the ruthless Vietnam veteran as a retired DEA agent and father. Rambo would have lived with his young daughter in Louisana, where some meth dealers would soon fight for his peace.
Would that have suited «Rambo» to become a law enforcement officer? Especially after the experiences of the first three parts, the answer can only be one: no. The leap from tireless lone fighter to former employee of the drug law enforcement agency — including daughter — seems unbelievable. Sylvester Stallone realized that too.
So he left it with the script for “Homefront”, bequeathed the lead role to Jason Statham and realized another project instead: “ The Expendables ”. A decision with which he was well advised. Also, because «John Rambo» became a surprise hit in 2008 and breathed new life into the figure believed dead.

Incidentally, Sylvester Stallone had another concept in mind before he came up with the idea of making Homefront a spin-off from his veteran saga. In the process, Rambo would face his never-before-seen sheriff brother to take on a gang of convicts during a hurricane in a small town.
However, many years ago, Sly had the idea of sending John Rambo to Mexico, where he had to rescue a friend’s kidnapped daughter and encountered an old enemy along the way. And in a way that’s exactly what was picked up in » Rambo: Last Blood «, the fifth part.
