With three episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi , we’re already halfway through the six-episode Star Wars series on Disney+. In episode 3, Obi-Wan aka Ben ( Ewan McGregor ) continues his escape with little Princess Leia ( Vivien Lyra Blair ) with Inquisitor Reva (Moses Ingram) on their heels. Video Editor Sebastian takes a close look at the new episode in the video attached above — including the moment in the episode where Obi-Wan talks about the time before he joined the Jedi. We address this aspect in this article. Attention, spoilers for episode 3 — and maybe also for the future of the series…?
Of course, the appearance of Darth Vader in Part III of «Obi-Wan-Kenobi» is likely to have caused the greatest stir ( in the original, James Earl Jones lends his voice again , while Hayden Christensen is there as an actor). Vader and Obi-Wan even cross lightsabers and things don’t look good for the rusty Jedi — but Obi-Wan manages to escape with the help of his new ally Tala («Game Of Thrones» star Indira Varma ).
Obi-Wan talks about his brother
The small scene in which Obi-Wan tells Leia about his biological family on Freck’s ( Zach Braff ) transporter should have received much less attention. He can only vaguely remember some details before the Jedi Order became his surrogate family: his mother’s scarf and his father’s hands, for example. And a baby – he must have had a brother.
More is then not revealed — but it is usually the case that such information is not shared by chance. And so we can well imagine that Obi-Wan’s brother will still have a role in the series. But it would be totally crazy if the creators would take up an idea that existed in an early draft of the script of » Return of the Jedi «: Owen Lars should turn out to be Obi-Wan’s brother!

This idea was then dropped, but found its way into some «Star Wars» books and also into a card game. It’s not canon, but it’s an idea that’s been floating around in the Star Wars world for quite some time…
Does the show make Owen Lars Obi-Wan’s brother?
Owen Lars ( Joel Edgerton ) also stars in Obi-Wan Kenobi, as he is the one who grew up with Luke Skywalker while Obi-Wan watches over him from afar. And in the previous episodes it has already become clear that the farmer and the Jedi are not particularly green and that Owen generally does not have a particularly great sympathy for the Jedi. There is a background story here – and who knows, maybe the brother story will actually be picked up again.
That would be a real surprise, and it would turn the Star Wars universe on its head — because that would make Obi-Wan a part of Anakin’s family in a way.
Obi-Wan tells Leia in episode 3 that he’s not her father — but might he turn out to be her step-uncle? Because Owen Lars and Anakin are stepbrothers, and as Owen’s brother Obi-Wan would also be something like Anakin’s stepbrother — and in general some of the previous movies would have to be viewed in a new light…
In the remaining three episodes of «Obi-Wan Kenobi» we will find out whether this blatant revelation will come about or whether it will all remain just a wild theory. It continues on June 8, 2022 with Episode 4 on Disney+ .
