“ Squid Game ” will not continue on Netflix until autumn 2024 (!), i.e. in around two and a half years . Because Hwang Dong-hyuk not only wants to take his time to deliver a sequel that won’t disappoint fans, but also works on other projects on the side. After already announcing a project that will be «even more brutal», he now has a satire about his own success in the works.
In «The Best Show On The Planet», he wants to work up his own experiences in an amusing (but certainly also very evil) way . It’s about what it’s like to suddenly land an overnight mega-hit like «Squid Game» and be in the spotlight. He does not give many details in the interview with Deadline . The project is still in its infancy, so it is at the beginning of development.
It is not yet known when «The Best Show On The Planet» could be released and whether the satire will then also come to Netflix — but of course it would fit perfectly there thanks to the «Squid Game» connection. And maybe many fans who are disappointed at first that the new «Squid Game» series is neither a sequel nor a spin-off, but probably more meta-satire, will be very enthusiastic in the end.
‘Squid Game’ star unveils directorial debut
By the way, in the second season of «Squid Game» we will also see Lee Jung-jae again as Gi-Hun. The actor hasn’t been idle either in the meantime. He has just completed his directorial debut and presented it at the Cannes Film Festival. However, our chief critic Christoph Petersen was not impressed:
He also stars in Hunt himself as the head of a South Korean spy unit desperate to uncover a North Korean spy. The thriller is scheduled to hit South Korean cinemas in late summer 2022 and then gradually be released in the rest of the world. It is not yet known when it will be released in this country.
