The ten-year-old Viking Halvdan ( Vilgot Hedtjärn ), who is the subject of the book and film, is not really a Viking in the eyes of many others, because he is small and limps. But that doesn’t stop him from roaming through the woods around his village, which is situated on a mighty river, where one day he meets the brave Meia ( Ellinea Siambalis ).
But Meia comes from the village on the opposite side of the river — and Halvdan’s village has always been at enmity with her. So Halvdan is skeptical about the girl at first, but they soon become friends. However, this is not at all welcomed by the village communities. As hostilities escalate, Meia and Halvdan make a pact, hoping not only to maintain their friendship but also to bury the hatchet between their tribes.
