One of the best films of 2020 cinemas is one that many may not have heard of: Never Rarely Sometimes Forever received rave reviews across the board, but it only played a small part in America’s award-season circus — and was even completely overlooked at the most prestigious film awards, the Oscars and the Golden Globes.
If you haven’t seen «Never Rarely Sometimes Always» either, you now have the opportunity to do so with a subscription to Amazon Prime Video at no additional cost. And we can wholeheartedly recommend director Eliza Hittman ‘s abortion drama :

A Metascore of 92 out of 100 points (from 38 reviews) and almost perfect 99 percent positive reviews at Rotten Tomatoes (238 reviews, average rating 8.6 out of 10) finally speak for themselves. And FILMSTARTS also gave it an excellent 4.5 out of 5 stars for a «resolutely sober, naturalistic film that, for exactly that reason, always pulls the rug out from under your feet».
Editor-in-Chief Christoph Petersen writes in his conclusion: «Rarely has one seen a more empathetic film — Eliza Hittman gives her young stars plenty of space to mold their roles into flesh-and-blood people, while the director herself shows an almost unheard-of level of empathy tells of the fate of an unwanted pregnant teenager. No exaggerations, no trivialization, no forced moment — and that’s why it’s such an incredibly powerful film.»

But not everything is going according to plan in New York either. The pregnancy is more advanced than Autumn realized and so the two young women have to endure several nights in the gaming cafes, train stations and subways of Manhattan — without money and without a roof over their heads…
