365 Days is Netflix ‘s 50 Shades Of Gray : a superficial erotic film that was badly received by both critics and the general public, but still became a smash hit. The fact that «365 Days» became the most successful Netflix film of 2020 was certainly not due to its quality, but simply to the fact that a controversial sexual fantasy was filmed here, which literally encouraged it to be widely discussed in the media.
Can the sequel repeat the success? The trailer gives a first glimpse of 365 Days 2, which will be released on Netflix on April 27, 2022.
What 365 Days: This Day is all about
The plot of the sequel doesn’t seem quite as scandalous as in «365 Days». The first was about a woman named Laura ( Anna Maria Sieklucka ), who was kidnapped by the rich gangster Massimo ( Michele Morrone ) and held captive for 365 days. Over time, Laura fell in love with the mafioso and the two became a couple. Part 2 seems much more conventional here:
Laura and Massimo marry, but after a while the relationship begins to struggle. Laura has a crush on another man who is an employee of Massimo’s and will probably give in to temptation and get in the box with him. A classic cheating number and almost a bit disappointing if you compare it with the absurd mind game from part 1, which is morally extremely questionable, but at least offers a certain entertainment factor.
The fact that part 2 is so ordinary is probably also due to the fact that Netflix produced the sequel itself this time. Another studio was behind the first part and the provider had simply secured the international streaming rights. But the degrading image of women and the glorification of sexually motivated violence in «365 Days» does not fit the image of the progressive streaming service. So we’re pretty sure 365 Days: This Day won’t be as controversial as its predecessor.
