Francis Ford Coppola is a true Hollywood titan. The director has made film history several times with masterpieces such as “The Godfather” and its sequel “The Godfather II”, “Apocalypse Now” and “The Dialogue ” . The filmmaker has been pretty quiet for the past few years though, and other than making a final cut of Apocalypse Now and re-editing The Godfather III (which really makes the mafia saga’s conclusion better!), the multiple Oscar winner was no longer able to make a name for himself

Now, however, Francis Ford Coppola is in the process of realizing his dream project “ Megalopolis ”. Finally, one might say, because Coppola began working on the science fiction epic as early as the 1980s. In the early 2000s, the director was also about to start making it, but then 9/11 happened and the project was dropped. The film is about architects who want to rebuild New York after a devastating catastrophe.
A «Star Wars» villain takes the lead role
Megalopolis, which is tipping the scales at $100 million (much of which Coppola finances out of his own pocket), could be the next big sci-fi hit. The cast that has now been announced promises to be pretty big cinema! After rumored to be Cate Blanchett, Oscar Isaac and Zendaya — which isn’t the case — it has now been confirmed that «Star Wars» villain Adam Driver will be starring in «Megalopolis.»
Also joining Nathalie Emmanuel (Game Of Thrones & Fast & Furious), Jon Voight (Mission: Impossible), Forest Whitaker (A Star Wars Story: Rogue One), and Laurence Fishburne (John Wick), «Matrix») with the party. Fishburne even got his start as a 14-year-old directed by Francis Ford Coppola, when he landed one of the larger supporting roles in Apocalypse Now. Filming is slated to begin this fall.
