As Batman, Michael Keaton has a central role in the long trailer for “ The Flash ”, which is now being shown publicly for the first time, according to various reports in the US press from the CinemaCon cinema trade fair in Las Vegas. At the end of the trailer there is even an iconic quote: “You wanna get nuts? Let’s get nuts,” he prompts for two versions of The Flash played by Ezra Miller . Keaton’s Batman spoke exactly the same words to the Joker played by Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton’s » Batman «.
The new scene is likely linked to the final moment from the first teaser , in which the two Flashes ask the Dark Knight if he’s there.
What has Batman experienced and why is he now a recluse?
There is also a lot more to see from Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne and Batman. So you can see that he was made younger for some scenes with digital technology. So I guess we’re getting a glimpse of what he did after the adventures in the Tim Burton films. We also learn that he has a whole collection of different Batman suits that he has accumulated over several decades as a protector of Gotham.
But he has probably taken off the Batman coat for the time being. At least that’s the impression the trailer gives. You first see Bruce Wayne with longer, white hair as a kind of hermit in his estate. When he later puts his suit back on and says the iconic quote mentioned at the beginning, he cuts his hair and exudes new energy. So the encounter with The Flash and the dangers that threaten the multiverse that the film now introduces to DC seems to push him back into the old hero role.
Interesting side aspect: Batman can be seen on his motorcycle in one scene. The voices from the USA are divided on whether you see Michael Keaton’s or Ben Affleck’s version of the character. However, many report that the bike itself is the one from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight films. Since the trailer was only shown once and of course there is no chance to repeat or even pause such a short scene in such a presentation in order to examine it closely, this can also be a misperception that is simply due to certain similarities.
The return of Michael Shannon’s Zod
By the way, the trailer does not yet reveal exactly what the dangers for the multiverse are. Could they be related to a known villain? Because Michael Shannon as General Zod from «Man Of Steel» can also be seen in the long trailer for «The Flash». Reports have been circulating for some time that he and co-star Antje Traue are reprising their roles in Zack Snyder’s Superman film. Now at least Shannon has been officially confirmed.
The trailer also gives us a good look at new heroine Supergirl played by Sasha Calle . Her suit is said to be very similar to the outfit worn by Henry Cavill as Superman in » Man Of Steel «.
“ The Flash ” by director Andy Muschietti will not be released in cinemas until June 22, 2023 (!). Since the launch is still over a year away, it may very well be that it will be a very long time before this trailer is released regularly. Until then, there is only the first teaser:
