The departure of Melissa McBride (Carol) from the series originally planned to be a Carol-Daryl spin-off has shocked The Walking Dead fans. According to broadcaster AMC, the actress is simply not ready to live in Europe for an extended period of time, where the filming will take place. So logistical issues that have nothing to do with Norman Reedus — and yet the Daryl actor has come under heavy social media fire.
Because some «The Walking Dead» fans believe that Norman Reedus demanded that the spin-off be set in Europe and was therefore indirectly responsible for Melissa McBride’s exit. Unfortunately, we could not understand exactly where this rumor started. But it spread quickly and caused supporters of the theory to spread their displeasure and sometimes hatred towards Norman Reedus on Twitter .
At the beginning of this video, some of the comments are summarized:
For example, it reads:
«You fooled them by moving [the series] to Europe? Nobody asked for it. Why are you doing this?”
“Norman Reedus never gave a shit about her.”
“I’m going to riot. F*CK YOU Norman Reedus.»
«Norman Reedus is a shitty friend.»
«Norman Reedus is an untalented asshole whose success comes only from taking advantage of others.»
Jeffrey Dean Morgan rebukes the angry mob
Such social media comments have not left Reedus’ The Walking Dead co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan indifferent . On Twitter , the Negan actor countered with a verbal retaliation:
“Some of you have gone WAY too far. TOXIC. Attacking Norm for some shit he had NOTHING to do with? Melissa made a decision that was hers alone. She wants/needs a break. Respect that. There are factors involved that are nobody’s business. Norm who gave you more than anyone else. Just SHIT.”
In another tweet, Jeffrey Dean Morgan makes it clear that fans greatly overestimate the influence the actor has on such series:
“Norman had nothing to do with the choice of location. This decision is all about the story, ideas… MONEY. This is the studio/station. Not the actors. We can say yes and do it or no and not do it… MAYBE. SOMETIMES. If we are happy and don’t have a contract yet. Rarely does an actor have that power.”
Will the angry fans understand Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s clear words? Unfortunately, we fear that comments like the one above will continue to exist. The broadcaster AMC has already issued an official statement, pointing out that Norman Reedus is «unfairly attacked» and that he was not involved in the decision:
Another departure from the Daryl spin-off
After Melissa McBride, showrunner Angela Kang (who is also responsible for the «The Walking Dead» parent series) has now left the spin-off. This reports Deadline . She will be replaced by longtime «Emergency Room» showrunner David Zabel . But there isn’t much time for major changes, as filming is scheduled to begin in the next two to three months.
The series, which now has to do without Carol and will probably be converted into a pure Daryl spin-off, is scheduled to premiere in 2023.
Before that, however, there is the finale of » The Walking Dead «. Season 11C, i.e. the last eight episodes of season 11, is expected to start in autumn 2022.
