In the mystery crime series » The Crimson Rivers » there are cruel secrets, sadistic murders and bizarre rituals — just like in the novel by Jean-Christophe Grangé and the two cinema adaptations from the 2000s. But something else is mysterious about this series: the order in which the episodes of season 3 are broadcast on ZDF.
The third season of “The Purpurnen Fluss” celebrated its German premiere in November 2021 – however, mysteriously, ZDF only showed episodes 2 and 3 of the four-part season at the time. Now it’s finally «on» — with episode 1! ZDF will show this on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 10:15 p.m. Anyone who thinks that episodes 2 and 3 will continue afterwards, which are simply repeated from the previous year, is mistaken: Next Monday (May 9th) episode 4 will be shown…
In the ZDF program itself, on the other hand, everything looks right: Here the episode numbers were changed without further ado. Episode 1 («Black Moon») is now simply called Episode 3. And the correct order is restored that easily…
ZDF has changed the order before
Incidentally, the fact that ZDF simply changes the order when broadcasting “The Purpurnen Fluss” is nothing new. Already in Season 1, the episodes were shown in a different order than in their French premiere.
This is possible because different cases are treated in the individual episodes. So swapping the episodes doesn’t matter too much, but it’s still confusing because there’s no clear order. So if you talk to friends about the series, you might want to use the title of the episode instead of just the number to avoid misunderstandings.
The order of the episodes of Season 3 that is valid for ZDF is now this:
«The Plague» (German TV premiere: November 22, 2021)
«The Festival» (November 29, 2021)
«Black Moon» (May 2, 2022)
«The Last Judgment» (9 May 2022)
Incidentally, a fourth season of the hit series «The Crimson Rivers» is said to be in the pipeline, in which Commissioner Pierre Niemans ( Olivier Marchal ) and Lieutenant Camille Delaunay ( Erika Sainte ) will once again investigate bizarre cases.
