» The Outfit — Made-to-Measure Crimes » tells the story of English tailor Leonard Burling ( Mark Rylance ) and is set in Chicago in 1956. Burling once made tailored suits for high society on the world-famous Savile Row in London, but had to leave home after an incident leaving. So he finally ended up in the USA, where he runs a small back street tailoring shop in the rough US metropolis.
However, his customers there also include mob boss Roy Boyle ( Simon Russell Beale ) and his henchmen, which is why a whole range of more than shady guys go in and out of the shop run by Leonard and his assistant Mable ( Zoey Deutch ). Things escalate one evening when the seriously injured Richie ( Dylan O’Brien ), the son of gang boss Roy, and the psychopathic killer Francis ( Johnny Flynn ) seek refuge in the store after a shootout…
«The Outfit — Custom Crime» will be released in German cinemas on June 2, 2022. Unfortunately, we can only recommend the crime thriller to a limited extent — FILMSTARTS editor Björn Becher only awards 2 out of 5 stars. But at least Mark Rylance in the leading role is great:

There are two big problems in “The Outfit”: The Oscar-winning author Graham Moore for his debut screenplay for “ The Imitation Game ” has come up with a plot that is cleverly structured on paper, but Moore in his directorial debut very much implemented with little tension. And then the whole thing culminates in a twist at the end that is neither particularly surprising nor really makes sense. Of course, we don’t want to reveal more at this point, so as not to spoil the fun for you if you still want to see «The Outfit».
And it’s definitely worth it because of Mark Rylance alone: Rylance has stood in front of Steven Spielberg’s camera three times in recent years — in «Ready Player One» (2018), «BFG — Big Friendly Giant» (2016) and «Bridge Of Spies — The Negotiator» (2015) — and can show his skills again, especially in interaction with Zoey Deutch («Zombieland 2») and Simon Russell Beale («The Death Of Stalin»).
