It was the Hollywood news of the month: Justin Lin resigned as director of “ Fast & Furious 10 ” after (!) filming had started . Days of the wild search for a successor followed — after all, every day without a director costs the studio up to a million dollars. A solution has now been found.
French director Louis Leterrier takes over the helm at short notice — and that’s fitting, after all, he already has experience in both car action (with «The Transporter» and «The Transporter 2: The Mission») and big-budget Effect Spectacles (featuring the MCU blockbusters The Incredible Hulk and Clash of the Titans) collected.
Pioneer in French Netflix
Most recently, Louis Leterrier worked mainly in his native France, where he produced both the first three episodes of the series hit » Lupin » and the action crime sequel » Ein MordsTeam Investigated Again » for Netflix (from May 6th exclusively in the offer of the streaming service). In the first part, » Ein MordsTeam » from 2012, which was also directed by David Charhon, undercover police officer Ousmane Diakhaté ( Omar Sy ), notorious for his unorthodox methods, and the always correct François Monge ( Laurent Lafitte ) dealt with the murder to a big industrialist’s wife.
In the late sequel , The Crime Team , the unlikely duo must investigate across France when a drug deal gone wrong in the French Alps turns out to be just the tip of the iceberg and a broader conspiracy begins to unfold. However, Ousmane Diakhaté and François Monge still rarely agree, which makes the investigations much more difficult in many places, but leads to decisive breakthroughs in others…
A hit in France and also a success in Germany
At the moment, the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Omar Sy is his global Netflix series hit “Lupin”. But when “Ein MordsTeam” was released in cinemas in France in 2012 and in Germany in 2013, everyone was of course still talking about the cinema phenomenon “ Pretty best friends ”, which in this country alone was able to attract more than nine (!!!) million visitors* to cinemas . Accordingly , «Ein MordsTeam» also went really well: In France, despite moderate reviews, it was enough for a ridiculously strong 2.2 million viewers — and in Germany, at least 280,000 paying guests were recorded in the end.
So it can be assumed that Netflix has shelled out a lot for the exclusive rights to the sequel…
