Stephen King wanted to rip off Stanley Kubrick ‘s head when he saw what the director of immortal classics like «2001» or «A Clockwork Orange» made of his novel in «The Shining «. Yes, at first glance the film, which we consider to be the best horror film of all time , had very little to do with the original. In truth, however, Kubrick boiled down to the essence of the book — and exposed King to uncomfortable truths about himself when it came to his alcoholism at the time.
Stephen King was full of praise for » Doctor Sleeps Awakening «, although «Haunted Hill House» creator Mike Flanagan also took some artistic liberties for the direct sequel to «The Shining». Actually much more serious for the ego of the Master of Horror: He is not only based on King’s book, but also on Stanley Kubrick’s «Shining».

Return to the Overlook Hotel: This is «Doctor Sleep’s Awakening»
Danny Torrance (Obi-Wan actor Ewan McGregor ), son of Jack Torrance ( Jack Nicholson in The Shining), is now an adult and is an alcoholic. He also has the ability to read other people’s minds and receive visions of future and past events — the Shining. Danny works at a hospice, where he uses his special gift to comfort the dying.
Some time later he meets the young Abra Stone ( Kyliegh Curran ), whose Shining is even stronger than his. Together they crack down on the cult, The True Knot, which is made up of former Shining users who harvest life energy from children who also have the Shining. The more painful the death of the children, the better. Danny must accept the fight — and soon return to the Overlook Hotel…
