Scott Derrickson (» Doctor Strange «) is just one of several comic book blockbuster directors who made a name for themselves primarily with smaller horror films at the beginning of their careers. But unlike Sam Raimi (from «Dance the Devil» to «Spider-Man»), James Gunn (from «Slither» to «Guardians Of The Galaxy») or David F. Sandberg (from «Lights Out» to «Shazam !»), Derrickson can produce a scientific study that proves that his diabolical shocker » Sinister » is the scariest film of all time. Even if the title was snatched away from him again in a later study by the pandemic horror film » Host «.
But it doesn’t matter whether the scientific measurement of horror is expedient or not — horror fans now listen closely to Scott Derrickson whenever he has a new film on the horizon. Especially since » The Black Phone — never speak to strangers » has already been shown at a number of festivals and is currently rated 100 percent positively on the Rotten Tomatoes review collection site. In Germany, on the other hand, we have to wait until June 23rd for the serial kidnapper horror film to be released in our cinemas.
The plot of «The Black Phone»
Smart but intimidated by his father’s violent activities, Finney Shaw ( Mason Thames ) is caught one day by a sadistic serial kidnapper and killer named The Grabber ( Ethan Hawke ), who keeps him in a soundproof basement. No matter how loud he screams for help, no one will hear him down here!
But then suddenly a switched off phone on the wall rings. When Finney picks up the phone, the 13-year-old is amazed to find that he can apparently hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they’re determined to help Finney and save the latest victim of the masked grabber from his fate, which was actually sealed long ago…
The first voices to «The Black Phone»

Amelia Emberwing for IGN Movies : «The film exceeds the already extremely high expectations after ‘Sinister’ in almost every respect.»
Eric Vespe for Slashfilm : «The first film adaptation of a Joe Hill original calls out for adapting more of his work for the big screen. Hopefully Hollywood is delivering now too.”
«The Black Phone» starts in German cinemas on June 23, 2022 — and if you prefer to watch the films in the original version, we also have the English-language trailer for you here:
