The harmless, slightly off-track Frank Darbo ( Rainn Wilson ) loses his beloved wife Sarah ( Liv Tyler ) to the strip club owner and crook Jacques ( Kevin Bacon ). Frank falls into a depression and one day has a vision that a character from the Christian TV program ( Nathan Fillion ) is speaking to him and encouraging him to become a superhero.
So Frank creates his alter ego, The Blood Red Lightning. Under this name he becomes the masked avenger who brutally beats rude people, drug dealers and child molesters. While the media portrays the blood-red flash as a psychopath, comic fan Libby ( Elliot Page ) wants to become his sidekick Boltie — and also lend him a hand in other situations…
