Netflix
Unfortunately, with the sheer volume of original series Netflix releases year after year, it’s no wonder not all titles find enough viewers to continue. Netflix therefore regularly pulls the plug on in-house productions when the costs are too high and there is not enough interest. This is increasingly affecting ambitious genre material, such as the sci-fi series Another Life , the horror series Archive 81 or the comic adaptation Jupiter’s Legacy in the recent past .
And now another Netflix series joins this inglorious squad: Netflix has canceled the coming-of-age superhero series » Raising Dion » after only two seasons with a total of 17 episodes — despite solid reviews and prominent Marvel participation Black Panther villain Michael B. Jordan , who co-produced the series and also had a supporting role as the main character’s late father. Cast member Sammi Haney confirmed the premature end via Instagram :
The story about the eponymous young superhero ( Ja’Siah Young ) and his young comrades-in-arms in the fight against evil therefore has no real conclusion.
No season 3 despite the open ending
In fact, according to Netflix, the second season of «Raising Dion» got off to a good start, but in terms of the hours watched by subscribers, it dropped noticeably in week 2 — which should also be an indication that not all of the started the season and watched it to the end. Netflix has now drawn the consequences from this.
Of course, such a cancellation is particularly bitter for those who have actually watched the respective series and now, in the worst case, have to make do with an open ending – and that shouldn’t be the case with “Raising Dion” either, not least because of the global Netflix character just be few. Just not enough to justify a third season. This was clearly teased at the end of the second with a resurgent villain and a surprising leap into the future. However, this cliffhanger will now remain unresolved.
