Concentrated horror power for a cult remake This film will be a nightmare for people with a fear of spiders

Buena Vista Pictures Distribution

Good things come to those who wait: Almost exactly four years ago we reported for the first time that horror guru James Wan («Conjuring», «Malignant») will produce a remake of the spider horror cult film » Arachnophobia «. Normally, after such a long time, one would assume that the project is over, but lo and behold: With Christopher Landon , a director and screenwriter has now been found for the «Arachnophobia» remake .

Christopher Landon is one of the most interesting and hard-working horror directors working in Hollywood right now, and over the past few years has made a number of films that horror fans should have seen: » Paranormal Activity: The Marked One «, » Scouts Vs. Zombies » , the two » Happy Deathday » parts and most recently » Freaky «, which was one of the best horror films of 2021 for us.

The FILMSTARTS review of «Freaky»

After ghost horror, zombie fun, two time travel slashers and one body swap slasher, Landon can now try another horror subgenre and unleash a lot of spiders on his characters (and the audience).

With Landon in the director’s chair and Wan as producer, there’s quite a bit of horror expertise coming together , and it’s safe to assume that the new «Arachnophobia» will have a certain humorous tone, like the original. Nevertheless, this will certainly not be for people with arachnophobia…

Along with Landon as director and Wan as producer, Michael Clear («The Conjuring 3») and Frank Marshall are also on board as producers. Marshall directed the original and several other films, but is best known as a five-time Academy Award-nominated producer (including Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).

That’s what «Arachnophobia» is about

In a dead photographer’s coffin, a newly discovered dangerous venomous spider travels from Venezuela to California, where it mates with a native spider and produces hundreds of equally venomous offspring. Soon, the deadly spiders are terrorizing the people of the small town of Canaima.

The newly recruited doctor, Dr. Ross Jennings (Jeff Daniels) is the first to track down the plague of spiders and after initial doubts from the population, with the help of the insect researcher Dr. James Atherton (Julian Sands) and exterminator Delbert McClintock (John Goodman) fight the eight-legged monsters on…

So far the plot of the 1990 original, the exact plot and cast for the remake are yet to be determined.
