Following fan excitement over Andrew Garfield ‘s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home , is Sony revitalizing The Amazing Spider-Man series and finishing the quite tragic story of this version of Peter Parker? Or do you confront this Spidey variant with all the secondary characters like Venom (Tom Hardy) , Morbius (Jared Leto) or Madame Web (Dakota Johnson) that are currently being made into films? It has long been speculated that Sony should be thinking about such plans – and many fans would like one of these or a similar variant to lead to Garfield’s comeback.
But the latest statements by Andrew Garfield should make fans sad at first. The superstar has now announced a break from acting. Has that ended his possible (already uncertain) future as Spider-Man? Not necessarily!
Andrew Garfield needs a break…
First off, what did Andrew Garfield say? He revealed to People magazine that he’s really looking forward to stepping out of the spotlight for the time being: it’s important to him to recharge the batteries after so much output in the recent past and the energy he’s put into it. He wants to go on vacation, but right now even boarding a plane feels like too much. So he just wants to lie down for a while, listen to music, hang out with friends and eat burgers.
Garfield is also coming from a very stressful period in his career. Most recently, he was shooting almost non-stop and/or doing a promotional tour for the projects – sometimes both at the same time. In addition to “ Spider-Man: No Way Home ”, the films “ The Eyes Of Tammy Faye ” (in Germany on Disney+) and “ Tick, Tick … Boom! (for Netflix). In addition, there is the series “ Murder on behalf of God ”, which is celebrating its TV premiere in the USA on April 28 and will soon be available on Disney+ in Germany.

Also part of this phase was the Oscar season, where nominated actors* (Andrew Garfield was in the running for Best Actor for “Tick, Tick … Boom!”) still have an additional appointment marathon. After all, it is important to take advantage of cinema screenings and other promotional events in order to increase your chances.
… but of course he can play Spider-Man afterwards
With the break now announced, it’s clear that Andrew Garfield will not be in front of the camera as Spider-Man any time soon. But let’s be honest: That wasn’t realistic anyway. There are no signs that Sony wants to film another comic book adventure with him right now. The success of «Spider-Man: No Way Home» and the associated fan response is still very fresh. Responding to this takes time. After all, possible ideas have to be developed first if you really want to do more Spider-Man appearances with Garfield.
Garfield does not specify how long his time off will last. He probably doesn’t know this himself and will make it dependent on when he feels fit enough to throw himself into the Hollywood circus. But it’s also clear that once his batteries are charged, he feels like making films again. He’s just taking the time out so that he’ll have the strength again to put his heart and soul into roles. And if Sony develops a «Spider-Man» project and offers him a «Spider-Man» project by then, he should certainly listen to this proposal.

So whether we’ll see Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man again remains uncertain. However, his announcement that he is taking a break has definitely not worsened these prospects – even if it might sound like it to some at first glance. Such concerns are therefore unfounded.
Meanwhile, the next Marvel movie is Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness , which hits theaters on May 4, 2022. Some MCU fans are hoping for Garfield to appear in the journey through the multiverse, which directly follows the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and the WandaVision series. This is not excluded, since there could be some cameos in «Doctor Strange 2» and Garfield would have turned it off some time ago. You shouldn’t really hope for that though…
