In the past, films like «Leatherface» (2017), «Psycho IV: The Beginning», «Exorcist: The Beginning» or «Insidious 4: The Last Key» have proven that prequels to celebrated horror films are not always the best idea. As is well known, exceptions confirm the rule and we may soon have a prequel to a real horror classic that can really convince again.

As has now been announced, the prelude to “ Das Omen ” is in the works at 20th Century Studios (and thus Disney) with “ The First Omen ” . Richard Donner’s 1970s milestone was not only a real box-office hit at the time, but is still one of the most influential scare-mongers in film history. No wonder the film is also included in our ranking of the best horror films of all time:

Here’s what we know so far about The First Omen
The original 1976 film follows an American ambassador (played by Hollywood legend Gregory Peck) who gradually comes to believe that his 5-year-old son is the Antichrist himself. Three more sequels followed, which received far less critical and public acclaim than the original film. In 2006 they tried their hand at a new edition with «The Omen 666», which had a top-class cast with Liev Schreiber, Julia Stiles and David Thewlis.
What «The First Omen» will be about is not yet known. Perhaps we are witnessing the devil’s first attempt to mingle with humanity and take over the world. Either way, we can certainly brace ourselves for plenty of occult horror again. Whether he knows how to pack remains to be seen. Directed by debut director Arkasha Stevenson , who previously directed episodes of Legion and Briarpatch.
Stevenson is also co-writing the script with Tim Smith, while David S. Goyer (screenwriter of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice) will produce The First Omen. It is not yet known who will play the main roles. In any case, we can expect Arkasha Stevenson to make her big screen debut as she strives to shine as a promising filmmaker for the future.
