The first two seasons of » The Orville » were broadcast on the US channel Fox in 2017 and 2018/19 and a third season was already planned at the time. But then the corona pandemic struck and filming was interrupted, so that it has now been more than three years since the season 2 finale premiered.
Now, however, «The Orville» comeback is imminent: Season 3 is officially titled «The Orville: New Horizons» and will be released on June 2, 2022 on the US streaming service Hulu. It (like the Fox broadcaster now) mostly belongs to Disney and the mouse company often publishes Hulu films and series in Germany and other countries on Disney+.
In the case of «The Orville» Season 3 , it has already been announced that the series will appear «soon» or «coming soon» in Germany on Disney+ — that was at the end of April 2022, so the German release could take place parallel to the US premiere or even later to wait a bit. We will keep you up to date.
More «Star Trek» than ever before
«The Orville» has always been a successful mixture of «Star Trek» homage and «Star Trek» parody. Series creator and leading actor Seth MacFarlane («Family Guy», «Ted») made fun of the adventures of Enterprise and Co. just as much as he based himself on it in terms of content and style.
A significantly larger budget now seems to have been available for Season 3, so that the action scenes and locations of “The Orville” were visually even more varied and implemented with significantly improved effects. This is reminiscent of the current «Star Trek» series » Discovery » and » Picard «.
The plot of season 3
The official synopsis for The Orville Season 3 is very vague and flowery, talking about an exploration mission, the mysteries of the universe, and the human (and non-human) relationships aboard the spaceship.
However, the trailer promises that » The Orville: New Horizons » follows more or less directly after the second season, in which the Kaylons turned out to be a big new threat. Ironically, the robot-like Kaylons also include Orville crew member Isaac (see cover photo above).
Wait longer for «Strange New Worlds»: Only then will «the best ‘Star Trek’ series in years» come to Germany
