CURTIS BONDS BAKER/NETFLIX
With “ Cobra Kai ” Netflix managed to strike a real gold medal: the “Karate Kid” sequel in series format, originally launched as a YouTube premium format, has become a celebrated hit in recent years and has delighted a steadily growing audience ever since. Not only die-hard fans of the 80s cult film about the rivalry between Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) are blown away by the series sequel, with «Cobra Kai» the martial arts soap universe also won many more followers to it. And while they’re eagerly awaiting the already overhauled fifth season, series creators Jon Hurwitz , Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald are turning their attention to it now also another task at the same time: a new Netflix series!
Don’t worry, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the successful trio has finished with the martial arts hit. Although there are plans to end the series at a certain point, at the same time they have a few more ideas for spin-offs in the quiver, as the series makers have already revealed . While the next «Cobra Kai» chapter is already in the can, the three, as reported by Collider , among others , are now dedicating themselves to a new format for a change, which is supposed to be told anyway after eight episodes and the «Karate Kid» The future of series production should therefore no longer stand in the way: » Obliterated» tells the story of a special unit that is supposed to prevent an impending catastrophe — and completely drunk!
This is Obliterated
«Obliterated» is designed as an entertaining action-fun that is somewhere between » Hangover » and » The Expendables » — at least that’s the impression you get when you take a look at the first details of the content.
Because it is supposed to be about an elite special unit that is tasked with defusing a bomb in the gambling paradise of Las Vegas and is just able to prevent a devastating bomb attack there. At least that’s what the squad thinks, which then lets it rip in the city of sin to celebrate the day. The only problem: the explosive device they believe they have rendered harmless was just a dummy. The real bomb is still ticking…
… and with this knowledge, the special unit has no choice the next morning but to move out — once again — to prevent the worst. Really this time. It’s just a shame that after a night of partying full of alcohol, drugs and sex, they’re totally screwed. Not the best conditions to save the world…
A trio with comedy experience
While «Obliterated» might be a bit explosive, the whole thing sounds as if comedy is clearly in the foreground. And in this area, Hurwitz, Schlossberg and Heald certainly have the necessary experience to have the laughs (once again) on their side.
«The Karate Kid» on a new level: This awaits us in «Cobra Kai» Season 5
Hurwitz and Schlossberg already wrote the screenplay for the cult comedy “ Harold & Kumar ” and are currently working on the script for “ American Pie 5 ”. Heald, on the other hand, wrote the two » Hot Tub Time Machine » – in which he already showed plenty of courage for crazy ideas and a flair for comedy. It is not yet known when «Obliterated» will start on Netflix and which stars will await us in it.
