As the title already makes clear, “ Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness ” takes you deep into the multiverse, to which the door was thrown wide open by the events in the “ Loki ” series. Nevertheless, «Loki» is not one of the series that you should definitely have seen beforehand. Marvel, on the other hand, recommends four other projects – two theatrical films and two series on Disney+:

But let’s be honest with you, if you’re going to get into Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness this weekend, you don’t really have to rush to catch up on all of it. Of course, knowing the whole MCU has long been an advantage at Marvel. Of course, the events in » Avengers: Infinity War » and » Avengers: Endgame » play an important role in the development of the character Doctor Strange ( Benedict Cumberbatch ) — especially his decision made at the end of «Infinity War» when he only had one Saw away is discussed several times.
But at the same time , Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is a film that pretty much works on its own. Especially if you don’t have much time, it’s enough to watch one or at most two of the recommended titles…
Watch Before: «Doctor Strange»
If you still want to watch something before you go to the cinema, check out the first MCU solo film starring Doctor Strange . This film helps to understand the relationship of the title character, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, to a number of supporting characters — above all, of course, to his great love Dr. Christine Palmer ( Rachel McAdams ), but also to colleague Dr. Nicodemus West ( Michael Stuhlbarg ), whose mini-appearance might otherwise make you wonder: who the hell is that?

Helpful: «WandaVision»
Knowledge of the Marvel series “ WandaVision ” is definitely helpful. Because the central dilemma of Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is the driving engine of the plot of «Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness». Knowing what she went through before makes it easier to empathize with her.

But it’s not absolutely necessary, because director Sam Raimi and «Loki» author Michael Waldron manage quite well to make Wanda’s motivation understandable even without previous knowledge — and they had to, because at the time of shooting «Doctor Strange 2 ‘ had no idea about the content of the series themselves.
As Elizabeth Olsen revealed to us in the exclusive FILMSTARTS interview, she shot the Disney+ series on a Wednesday and was then on the set of «Doctor Strange 2» from Friday. And there Olsen was the only person who even knew what was happening in «WandaVision».
