The fact that Stephenie Meyer’s «Twilight» series was not only a sensational success in literary form, but also the film adaptations with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner in the leading roles made a lot of money, is pretty much self-explanatory. The fantasy romance picks up teenagers* in their fears and their curiosity and also tells of a romance doomed to failure, whose love defies all odds.
A very similar initial situation awaits us with the eight-episode series “ First Kill ”, which can be streamed via Netflix from June 10, 2022 . However, there is a special highlight here: Because the adaptation of the young-adult short story of the same name by the bestselling author VE Schwab presents us with an even more forbidden love affair than “Twilight”: Here a vampire and her hunter fall in love with each other.
This is «First Kill» on Netflix
The focus of the story is the teenager Juliette («American Crime Story» star Sarah Catherine Hook ). However, the young woman is not a conventional adolescent growing up, but a vampire. In order to take her place in a powerful vampire family, she must kill her first victim. She chooses Calliope ( Imani Lewis ), who is new in town.
As it soon turns out, Juliette’s choice wasn’t particularly clever, because Calliope is a member of a notorious family of vampire hunters who have been trained for many years to put an end to the bloodsuckers. But instead of fighting each other, the two ladies quickly feel attracted to each other. A forbidden romance ensues that gets Juliette and Calliope in a lot of trouble…
«First Kill»: Stars from «Lost» and «The Punisher» are also there
In addition to Sarah Catherine Hook and Imani Lewis (whom you know from «Hightown», for example), there are some well-known faces in the supporting roles of «First Kill». The cast includes Elizabeth Mitchell («Lost»), Jason Robert Moore («Marvel’s The Punisher») and Aubin Wise («Atlanta»). The series was produced by Felicia D. Henderson (“Gossip Girl”) and Emma Roberts (“American Horror Story”, “The Hunt”), among others.
