Three years before Spider-Man: No Way Home wowed Marvel fans around the world with three Spidey variations in one film, Spider-Man: A New Universe was already successfully testing the multiverse concept on the big screen out. Including the credits scene, the animated adventure offered a total of eight different Spidey versions from different universes. A total of around 40 characters cavorted in the film.
As the producers and authors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have now announced, according to Variety , the sequel will add a decent multiverse shovel: In » Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse » there will be 240 (!) characters and the plot will take place in six (!) different universes.
The announcement took place as part of a screening where visitors to the cinema operator fair CinemaCon were shown the first 15 minutes of the «Spider-Man» film, which will be released in 2023. Variety has summarized the scenes shown there, which is why we can describe to you here how the animated Marvel adventure starts.
Beware, Spoilers: The First 15 Minutes of «Across The Spider-Verse»
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse begins on Earth-65, where there is a Spider-Woman instead of a Spider-Man in the form of Gwen Stacy (original voice: Hailee Steinfeld ). She gets wind of the villain Vulture wrecking the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan and immediately swings in to take on the enemy.
But during their battle, Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099 ( Oscar Isaac ) suddenly appears , complaining that their past adventure (in «A New Universe») has ripped a hole in the multiverse and so has villains like Vulture in it landed in the wrong dimensions. A little later, another Spider-Woman from another universe appears: Jessica Drew ( Issa Rae ), who is already five months pregnant (will she have a Spider-Baby?).

The action then switches back to Earth-1610, which we know from the first part. Miles Morales ( Shameik Moore ) has a snazzy new Spidey suit, but struggles to balance his school life with his life as a superhero. He’s late for a college counseling appointment because he’s caught petty criminals again.
In the following conversation with the counselor, the unreliable student is defended by his parents. Miles also talks about his ambitions to go to Columbia University. But it doesn’t take long before the next Spider-Man mission calls and the young hero hastily storms out of the counseling session. At this point, the first 15 minutes of the film, as described by Variety , ends .
New title for «Spider-Man: Across The Universe Part 2»
At the presentation it was also announced that the already confirmed third part of the «Spider-Verse» saga will not be called «Across The Spider Verse — Part II» after all. The new title is Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse . However, it is questionable whether the films will also appear in Germany under the above-mentioned names. The first part was called «A New Universe» instead of «Into The Spider-Verse» in this country, so that the sequel may end up in cinemas as «A New Universe 2 & 3».
«Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse» starts in German cinemas on June 1, 2023, the third part will follow on March 28, 2024.
