«007» Daniel Craig was set to make a cameo appearance as part of the Illuminati in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness , it has now been revealed. The actor canceled at short notice. After an increase in the corona numbers shortly before his planned day of shooting, the risk of catching the virus on the set and then returning directly to his family and his little baby daughter is said to have been too great. That’s what Deadline ‘s usually well-informed industry reporter Justin Kroll reports .
Daniel Craig was supposed to be part of the Illuminati. However, the cancellation of the 007 star is not the reason that there is a free chair in the film, the meaning of which fans are speculating massively. Because after Craig’s cancellation, John Krasinski («The Quiet Place») was hired as a replacement at short notice. But it doesn’t follow that Craig should also play Reed Richards. There was probably a last-minute change here, because a different role was supposedly planned for the blond Brit.
Daniel Craig as Thor’s brother?
As various Marvel insiders unanimously report, Daniel Craig should appear as Balder The Brave. In the comics, Balder The Brave is the son of Odin and Frigga, and thus half-brother to Thor. He is a particularly brave warrior who has proven himself in numerous battles, which is why he got his nickname. The character hasn’t been featured in the MCU so far — and it also seems hard to imagine that she’ll be reintroduced into the main universe at some point. So of course it would have been a nice gag to show that Balder not only exists in another universe, but may have landed on Earth instead of Thor.
Of course, Balder was also supposed to die in the confrontation with Wanda ( Elizabeth Olsen ). Supposedly this would have brought him with her power to kill himself.

That’s why Wanda’s fight against Reed is causing a stir
So instead of Daniel Craig as Balder, we got John Krasinski as Reed Richards — although it’s not yet known whether Marvel sees this cast just as a gag, because many fans have long wanted the » The Office » star in the role, or it is Harbinger/test for the upcoming » Fantastic Four » movie. At least there is such a fight between Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda and John Krasinski’s Reed Richards that is causing quite a stir.
Because the magazine Vanity Fair has a popular video series in which stars have to answer questions connected to a lie detector. Elizabeth Olsen also took part. When she is shown a photo of John Krasinski and asked if this man is the smartest person alive (referring to a quote from Doctor Strange 2), Olsen says she doesn’t believe it, but he does too never met. In response to several puzzled questions, also because both are in the same film, Olsen confirms several times that she has never met this man (i.e. Krasinksi) — only his wife (actress Emily Blunt ). The lie detector test indicates that she is telling the truth.
Some Marvel fans celebrate Olsen for being such a good actress that she outwits the lie detector. That is of course possible — and one of several reasons why lie detectors are not used in Germany, for example. But it is much more obvious that she told the truth — not only because there is no longer any reason to lie.
The Doctor Strange 2 executives have already confirmed that planning the Illuminati cameos was a logistical nightmare because the stars had limited and wildly different time. In the end, the shots were mostly filmed individually in front of green screens and then simply put together in post-production. So even two stars — like Elizabeth Olsen and John Krasinski — can not only be in one scene, but even be in the picture together and act together without ever having been on the set together and not having met.
Whether we’ll see John Krasinksi again as Reed Richards is currently just as unknown as the answer to the question of whether we might see Daniel Craig as Balder at some point. In the following video we tell you why the Illuminati themselves could become important again despite their short cameo:
